What an exciting edition this is! As an entrepreneur (and pilot) the thought of flying high gets my blood moving!

It’s also Youth Month, which is traditionally a celebration of youth and excitement for the future and potential of our country. This year though with the youth jobless rate (as per the expanded definition) a horrific 74.7% this month takes on a different tone.

It is time to act. What are the solutions can we apply to this disaster?

Youth need hope and a vision for their future. They need clarity on what is possible and how to get there. As entrepreneurs, and growth specialists we have powerful tools in our box that can be activated immediately.

Simple yet powerful contributions are to invite school-goers to experience our working world (Grade 10 work experience project), we can offer to speak at our local schools about our experience of real-life business, perhaps sharing tips for easy start-ups, and we can provide work experience or internship to graduates as a win-win resourcing solution for ourselves. We can also go further to invest in youth startups through mentorship, provision of non-financial support such as a hot desk, access to internet and shared services.

Remember too that as normal citizens we make a difference when spending our money in small businesses where each Rand that circulates builds wealth within our community.
