If you are looking for stocking fillers or have some free time, we have put together a selection of great books recommended by our readers.

THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD BY OG MANDINO (LOOT R112)

It’s a tiny book; it’s a quick read and has great tips on how to improve your sales skills. The book is about Hadid, a poor camel boy who achieves a life of abundance. My favourite scrolls from the book were:

Scroll 1 – in truth, the only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the differences of their habits. Time teaches all things to he who lives forever but I have not the luxury of eternity.

Scroll 2: be loving and kind

Scroll3: persist and you will succeed

Scroll 4: I am nature’s greatest miracle – I am not on this earth by chance. I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. – Pumla Makeleni rated this book an 8.

THE MONEY MASTER BY ANTHONY ROBBINS (LOOT R204)

It’s a great book and covers many principles about personal finance. It’s very thorough and intensely researched. I give it an 8 because it’s a very long read plus the context is for the US. I’d recommend it for any adult who’s serious about their financial future, especially if they are in business. – Phuti Mphelo gave this book an 8.

CODE OF THE EXTRAORDINARY MIND BY VISHEN LAKHIANI (TAKEALOT R499)

This book changed the way I live my life – from engaging with others to evaluating why I believe what I do and why I act the way I do. – Elmarie Goosen rated this book a 10.

THE RUNELORDS BY DAVID FARLAND

I read the whole series in high school. Imagine Game of Thrones mixed with the Lord of the Rings. I recently got back into this and with all the negativity going on in the world, it is nice to escape to another world. – Ruan Schreuder gave this book a 9.

THE GOAL BY ELIYAHU GOLDRATT (LOOT R256)

Lightbulb moment for me to realise that although it is important “efficiency’ does not drive profitability”.  You must continue to drive up throughput in production while keeping operating costs and inventory down. Sell! Sell! Sell! Elize Davids rated this book an 8.

FOCUS BY DANIEL GOLEMAN (LOOT R146)

I found the book difficult to understand the first time I read it, but on my second read, I learnt a lot about focusing in the midst of our busy lives. Daniel claims that the 100 00 hours by Malcolm Gladwell in Outliers (another good read) is not enough as we don’t reach new heights by practice only. Sabelo Lindani gave this book a 7.

If you read any of these books, let us know what you thought of the book and if you would give it a different rating here.
