The stigma around the use of traditional medicine to address health ailments is slowly falling away, and this has opened an opportunity for traditional healers to become entrepreneurs.
According to EyeWitness News, 8 out of 10 South Africans currently rely on traditional healers for health-related matters and the trade of traditional medicine generates more than R2.9 billion every year.
The increased use of traditional medicine inspired Nokuthula Jeza to start her business, Izithako Zamajeza. She uses her spiritual calling to create chemical-free medicinal products using indigenous herbs. Her small business sources, manufactures, packages, and distributes African herbal products.
Nokuthula left her job in the corporate sector to pursue a career dedicated to healing people. Today, her business sells products that help people struggling with immune system, fertility and many other health and spiritual issues. Most of her products are sold in pharmacies and in retail stores across Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
As a young woman herself, she identifies with health issues affecting young women and most of her products are aimed at helping them address chronic conditions.
In her informative and inspirational radio interview, she spoke about the growth of the traditional medicine sector. “It’s an exciting industry to be in because some of my peers are making herbal soaps and lotions that are free from any chemicals,” she said.
Her love for helping people keeps her motivated even when running a business becomes challenging. Nokuthula feels inspired when she gets positive feedback from her clients and seeing the quality of their lives improving.
Nokuthula Jeza, the founder of Izithako Zamajeza, was interviewed on Izwi Lomzansi FM. The interview is in IsiZulu.
