Last week I shared my strategy for living life to the fullest, but I left off the 6th rule. It’s probably the most important rule of all: Just say Yes!
The energy of Just say Yes is about embracing opportunity. It’s about allowing yourself to be happy and to do fun things, a belief that all will be well.
I come from a family that isn’t good at great enthusiasm and liberating abundance. Both my grandmothers had Scottish blood in them and a strong Presbyterian work ethic, which if you are not familiar with is all about the belief that one was put on earth to work not to have fun.
My personal belief structure is that if you have asked the universe for something (or God if that is your belief) when it arrives you absolutely better take it – not taking it is rude – rather like declining the chocolate cake that your grandmother lovingly baked especially for you.
Just say Yes is a reminder to embrace opportunities that take me places – places of joy and happiness, places of change and adventure and perhaps places I haven’t even dreamt of… Imagine how different my life would have been if I said yes to all the opportunities that were presented instead of limiting myself with thoughts of “I’m not ready” or “What if it goes wrong?”. The truth is we will never be ready, and if we wait the chances are it will be too late for that opportunity.
Every now and again I set myself a YES day, where I have to say yes to every opportunity that comes my way. I find that it’s a great way to shift me out of a risk-averse mindset and rebuild the confidence to really fly especially in business.
Try it, it could be the most exciting day of your life. Just one tip though – probably best not to tell people you are doing it or you could end up doing a lot of strange things like fetching the coffee, walking the dog and cleaning the car.
Have a great week – give yes a try!
