Lockdown has given me the chance to eat everything I see and wear excessive amounts of PJs and trackpants. But most importantly, I have grown as a woman I am proud of and a woman that would make my own mother proud. I am no Jedi or Dalai Lama that arrived at this stage of enlightenment on my own – I had help. I had help from the women I work with, the women in my life, and the change that’s happening in the world.
Open up your social media, the news, politics or the latest movies and you will see boss babes everywhere. Women standing up for their beliefs, their rights, and whatever the hell they want. Women have started stepping out and owning their space and it’s about damn time.
If this is the first time you are hearing the term, Boss Babe, that’s okay. Natalie Ellis and Danielle Canty are the founders of the Boss Babe community and their definition of this term is pretty spot on.
“BossBabes are women who KNOW that they’re the business. In our community no dream is too big or aim too high: we encourage women to be unapologetically ambitious and equip them with the kit to create success for themSELVES.”
If you’re in the mood for a giggle, hop on over to Urban Dictionary to read their definition of a boss babe.
However, things are changing and women all over the world are saying “Hell NO!” to this ancient way of thinking and they are owning their space in the sun. I am fortunate enough to work in a company like Fetola where majority of the employees are women. The Fetola women are strong, fierce, courageous, and beautiful. They uplift each other, the entrepreneurs they work with, and the Fetola team. They are mothers, wives, sisters, partners, and a group of boss babes that have taught me so much about being a woman and about being true to myself.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve been told that I am bossy, aggressive, difficult and abrupt. But no matter how many times it’s been said to me, I’ve held onto those qualities for dear life. I knew I wasn’t meant to just be cute, sweet and amenable and it’s taken me a long time to be unapologetic about these qualities.
Women all over the world are learning how to love their bodies a little more. To love the quirkiness that makes people uncomfortable. But most importantly, women are lifting each other up.
I have learned how to love myself and all my weirdness. I have learned to embrace and shine a light on the side of me that I was told to hide. I have become a boss babe. But that’s not the best part – I am surrounded by women who uplift each other and stand up for what they believe.
Below you will find words of encouragement and inspiration from female entrepreneurs and boss babes. I hope their words bring you courage, inspiration and a fire that burns deep inside you.
I’d like to thank the beautiful women who have contributed their time, thoughts and love into sending these quotes. If you would like to share your insights, thoughts and experiences, please email them to me at [email protected]
